The same behavior happens in Writer, at least in tables. Using
<Ctrl-Z> (or <Option-Z> on my Mac) undoes the time, but only
temporarily. One workaround that failed was to place a space after
the ratio. I can't use an apostrophe because I'm not using a
spreadsheet.
Let me amend this. I put a (thin) character before the ratio and
turned it white. This fixed it, but is ugly.
Right click in the Column Name (A, B, ... or whichever column you are
entering the data) to select the entire column and bring up the context
menu. Now click the Format Cells option and choose Fraction from the
list under Category. Click OK. Now you can enter things like 5/6 without
them being turned into dates I assume that's what you are trying to do).
The fractions you enter can be used in arithmetic formulae.
Note that 1/2 and a few other common fractions will be turned into
single characters ("½" in this case). You can prevent this using
Tools>AutoCorrect>Options and deselecting the "Replace 1/2 with ..."
option. This option applies to the whole spreadsheet, not just to any
particular column(s). You should turn this option off as the single
character is treated as *text* with arithmetic value zero - not what you
want.
Note too that your entries will be reduced to their lowest terms, for
example 2/6 will be automagically changed to 1/3. I don't know how to
turn this behaviour off - if indeed you want to.
