Hello group.
OOo 3 on MacBook Pro with OSX 10.5.5 I was given a simple, text-only spreadsheet, generated in MS Excel (2003 or earlier) on Windows XP, and I tried to double-click it to open in OOo in OSX 10.5.5. The program launched, but did not populate its window, nor present any error messages. It also appeared to cause some other transient problems with other apps, so I tried to close it. No response. I tried Force Quit. Nope. I tried to shutdown the laptop from the Apple menu. Nope. Eventually I resorted to the hard shutdown via the power button. Repeat above, just to see if it was a fluke. Nope. On third try, I opened OOo first, and then called the spreadsheet, which opened without difficulty, and which I saved as .ods. All's well that ends well, but I wonder if this kind of thing is more the fault of the OOo port or of the OS. I think that OOo should play nice and should catch its own error conditions gracefully, while identifying (via friendly and informative error message) what's happening, but I also think that OSX ought to be far more robust by now. It shouldn't allow OOo to cripple it, no matter how badly OOo might choose to behave. I've only had this Mac thing for a week, so I'm not up-to-speed on which are the better forums to learn/discuss the Mac stuff. But this happened around OOo, so I thought I'd ask if it sounds familiar to any of you other Mac folks. Does it? - Kevin (who previously used OOo only on Windows and Linux ) The information contained in this electronic mail transmission may be privileged and confidential, and therefore, protected from disclosure.
