Dear sirs,
My problem is, that I have the official Office student and teacherr edition 2003, but as I bought a new laptop LG X110 without CD-drive, I don't know how to re-enter my program on this new computer. Therefore I tried to download your open office program, but without succes. After 1 hour your program was only downloaded 30%, so I stopped it. Before trying again, I would like to know, if open office can read the files of microsoft office 2003 or not. On my cruzer SanDisk is your program downloaded, but I can't open my files of excell, also on this USB, with your program.
I thank you in advance for your reply (which I hope will arrive soon!),
yours sincerely,
Agbaria Marijke,
Israel.

YES, it can

I have MS Office 2003 and the .doc files works fine with OOo 3.0
Standard Spreadsheet and Presentation files work fine as well.

I use MS Office only when I have to, which is rarely now.

I use OpenOffice 3.0 for over 99% of my Office style work, personal and professional.

Also if you want to have English, Hebrew, and an Arabic version of MS Office, you would have to pay for each one, while having each version of OpenOffice.org is just the download time. These install files are large, over 140 meg, but are worth the time to download if
you have dial up.

If you check out some of the mirror download sites, you might find one that
works faster from your area.
