Almost nothing reads Microsoft Works except for Microsoft Works, not even Microsoft Office.

However, there is a forked version of OpenOffice.org called OxygenOffice Professional which claims to be able to read Works files. See http://sourceforge.net/projects/ooop . It may do what you want.

You can also convert from Microsoft Works to .doc or to OpenOffice .odt files online with Zamzar. See <http://blog.zamzar.com/2007/04/23/convert-wps-microsoft-works-files-to-doc-odt-txt-and-pdf/>.
