Why the shouting?
For more than five hours I've started the download for OpenOffice3.
Each and every time, this damn download hangs, stops, or crashes around 28%

If you are having trouble with downloads canceling, then you should
find some type of download manager. There are some that are free.
I have not used one in a long time, but when I had a dialup connection
I used one. It worked for me. I may try one again soon, even though
I currently have broadband.

There is a plan $9 billion plan to get rural broadband to 90%
of phone users. That will help with downloads.
The speed, connection, and dropped downloads, tend to be helped by
a Download Manager. Sun wants you to use theirs when downloading.
There are also programs that tweak your internet connection, broadband
or dialup, that will help with the speed of the downloads and connections.
So, if all that fails:
1) Try to restart the download at a mirror site.
Some are faster than others.
2) Try downloading at another time. There may be a rush or too
many people is trying to download the file at the same time.
3) If you use dialup, try a free sample of a different dialup
service provider. See if they have a better connection with
less drops
4) All else fails, Call you service provider - Internet provider
and phone provider if you use dialup. Some where there is a
problem. Since many providers are restricting their bandwidth
for different internet activities, you may need to find out if
they do it.
