I'm preparing a Newsforge article about swapping files between OOo
Writer and MS Word. I'll be doing my own experiments, but I'd be
interested in other people's experiences. What works for people sharing
documents between the two programs, and what doesn't?

When you answer, please mention what versions of the programs you are
using. I'm mostly interested in the version 2.0 beta, but I also hope to
get a sense of how sharing files between the two programs has improved,
so I'm also interested in experiences with 1.x.

Also, if you give detailed comments, please mention if you have any
objections to being quoted or cited.

Thanks in advance for any and all comments.

My wife and myself have used Open Office in a MS Office environment for some time. I find that in most cases there are no problems and in the case of Beta 2.0, they are even less.

I have only come across one major problem in moving files between MS Office and Open Office and that was with charts created in Excel and linked to a Word document. The legends of the images were unreadable. As this was document that needed to be completed quickly, this was a major headache. We ended up exporting the charts as graphics and putting the graphics in OOo.

There are some issues with Macros and different commands, but that is expected.

Added benefits are being able to open documents that MS Office won't open for one reason or another. Even in a few cases of opening documents that MS Office had only closed a few minutes earlier. I have saved a few butts from time to time on this matter.

My wife uses 2.0 beta almost exclusively and I have yet to get her to tell me of any problems. In fact the business she works for is moving to Open Office from MS Office as it works across Mac, Linux and Windows and the files transfer much better.
