I've just started using Impress for classes I teach at a local government school. I haven't used impress much and powerpoint not at all-- and I don't have a copy of pp at home to play with.
I use OO under linux and the school has a smart board set-up powered by Windows XP and using MS Office. I'm producing presentations in Impress to be used in Powerpoint. I'm not sure of the version of pp used, but I would be guessing it's older than 2007. I would like to embed a music file that plays while the presentation progresses... the mp3 has a song and the next few slides have the words to the song which the kids then sing. I tried to do this but for some reason I got an error message saying that the particular format, mp3, could not be attached to the presentation in the linux version. Is there any way around this? I've got the various codecs etc installed and can play mp3s, so it seems to be a decision by OOo developers to restrict the formats depending on the OS. That sort of undermines the cross-platform credentials just a tad. If this can't be worked around, can someone tell me if ogg format is supported by Powerpoint? And a related question which relates more to powerpoint than openoffice, but since the members of this list are infinitely wise and knowledgeable :) If I attach the song file to the slide with the text of the first verse, and then go back to that slide after a chorus, for example, can it be set up so as not to restart the sound file? If not, I guess the way to do it is insert a blank slide that contains the sound file. Thanks for any answers people may be able to share on these questions. -- God bless you, Keith Bates www.new-life.org.au If you don't have a reason to live JESUS IS THE ANSWER!
