Why it works, I have no idea. I only know that it works... Summary: Using identical development builds of OpenOffice.org, the only difference being one is the build for Windows, and the other is a build for Linux, AutoCorrect (the word-completion functionality, anyway) is broken in Linux, but NOT in Windows. Workaround: I go to the same location that I grabbed the copy of OpenOffice.org that I am testing: ftp://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/DEV300/DEV300_m41/Build-1/OOo_DEV300_m41_LinuxX86_install_en-US_rpm.tar.gz and grab the tarball that contains the langpack RPMs: ftp://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/DEV300/DEV300_m41/Build-1/OOo_DEV300_m41_native_LinuxX86_langpacks_rpm/OOo_3.0.0_090130_LinuxIntel_langpack.tar.gz I then copy the resulting files to the appropriate location, restart OO and AutoCorrect works. What seems strange, and I didn't discover this until after I tried this process on a few version of OO.org, is that all of the RPMs that I downloaded from the langpack directory (second link above) are in the tarball that I got from the first link above... They even appear to be close to the same size, and I believe that they do have the same number of files. I will redownload the two tarballs referred to above again and get you some more accurate figures. The important thing is that I can get AutoCorrect working in Linux on the 3.* development builds. This process also works around the issue that spellcheck seems to be broken as well. But the question still remains: how come this all works (with the same version of OO.org) in Windows but not in Linux? Anyway, eagerly anticipating some discussion on this issue. (Well, it's an issue on my system, anyway... I'll have to try all of this on a Fedora 10 system that I have access to.) Steven P.
