I have a table that I created in Writer. I can type text into the
cells, and I can put the cursor into the end of the text in the cell
using the mouse. But if I click on the existing text in the cell the
mouse cursor is suddenly thrown to the end of the previous page. It's
like the text in the cells has its shields up and anything hitting it
bounces away. Yet, once the cursor is in the cell I can use the arrow
keys to move back and forth across the text, and I can edit the text
with the keyboard.

The cells are not protected. And even if they were, I should not be
able to enter any text into them, or even edit the text with the
keyboard. At least, I think that is how protection works. (I never use
protection.)

The only problem is that I cannot select parts of the text in the cell
with the mouse. Double-clicking in the cell at the end of the text
selects all the text in the cell, but if I double click on top of the
existing text the cursor jumps off the table to the last line in the
previous page. This makes it really tedious to do formatting like
changing a font for an individual character (something I need to do a
lot). For example, one cell that I just tried to edit contains "[θ, x]"
and I need to change the font for the theta.

This is Writer 3.01 on Ubuntu Intrepid.

Does anyone know what might be causing this weird behavior?
