Ctrl+Tab Inserts a tab stop (only in tables). Depending on the Window Manager in use, Alt+Tab may be used instead.

(Actually, it doesn't insert a tab stop - does it? - but rather a tab character.)

Different terminology for the same thing. The term "tab stop" is probably more familiar (or has more meaning) to more people than the technical term "tab character".

It sounds as if the help material might be better off just saying that it inserts a tab, which seems pretty clear and avoids confusion with tab set positions -- which is how I (and apparently Brian) interpreted 'tab stop' in the current documentation. I'm pretty sure I've seen references to "setting tab stop positions" in related discussions.

(See also my note to Brian on this thread.)
Yes, I think you are right that the help material and other documentation should be more consistent (and accurate) in its use of terms for tabs and tab stops... along with a lot of other inconsistent terminology, some of it much more ambiguous and confusing to readers.

Several people have been contributing "bug reports" or "enhancement requests" for these inconsistencies, and they are slowly getting fixed. I often simply don't notice things like this until someone points it out, so thank you both!
