On Linux, OO, Kword or Ted open it with different layout too, but OO is the most broken. Layout may be a problem of available fonts too. Maybe adding MS fonts would solve this. on linux a package named mscorefonts should be available, or you can get them at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=34153 this fonts are free, it is legal to get them, even if MS does not provide them anymore...
