Nicholas, if «Ctrl+Shift+u» doesn't work with KDE, my suggestion would be to appeal to your fellow KDE users on the Ubuntu support fora ( http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/webforums), where I am sure you will be able to find a solution to the problem.
