Does this have something to do with track changes being on?

I'm editing a document that has track changes on. I added a block of
text below an existing block. Initially, the added text looks sort of
like green, and is underlined. I want to change the text color to
yellow. I selected the block of text, then selected "Character" from
the context menu. In the "Font Effects" tab, I tried setting "Font
Color" and "Underlining Color" (with "Single" underline) to Yellow, and
clicked OK, but it didn't change the color of the selected text. When I
select the text again and select "Character" again, the sample text in
the box is yellow.
