On 4 Jan 2008 I wrote in this list:
==== begin quote ===

1. You get the "[moderated]" as part of the subject line when you click
the mailto: link on the OpenOffice.org support page (at
http://www.openoffice.org/contact.html ) regardless of whether or not
you are subscribed. To see this, go to that web page and hover your
mouse over the mailto: link at the numbered point #2 near the middle of
the page. Note that there's another #2 lower down; that's *not* the one
I mean.

2. You don't get "[moderated]" if you type your own subject line (unless
you explicitly include it) even if you are not subscribed; the
moderator's software does *not* insert it.

As has been noted before, the *only* way to tell if the poster is
unsubscribed is by the presence of a "Delivered-To:" header containing
"moderator for [email protected]" and, if I remember correctly, even
this is not 100% reliable because it doesn't catch unsubscribed users
who send messages via Gmane's news interface.

=== end quote ===

The web page I mentioned still exists but I can't find the mailto:
link any more. The only mailto: links in that page today are to
request subscription to different lists, to order OOo on CD or to
contact the site's webmaster. There was a major revamp of the OOo web
site a short time ago so perhaps the offending link was removed then.
