Does anyone know why queries from unsubscribed users tend to come in
bursts, like the batch we just got (roughly 11:30 - midnight EDT)?

Those messages have to be checked by a moderator, so I guess he or she
does that in batches.

Correct. I filter the unsubscribed mail in batches. However not at the time
stated (must be something to do with the mail server time zone, etc...)

And unfortunately doesn't place a [moderated] tag in the subject header.
Perhaps the only way to get these mysterious 'moderators' to pay
attention and start adding the tag is to start sending from an
unsubscribed email address & tell them that this is a real issue.

There is no ability to modify the message (header/contents/subject) prior to
approving/declining. Its a simple 'approve' or 'decline'.

I would have started doing something like this a long time ago (based on the
subject noise) if it was possible.

Hi Paul
First, Thank you for your time and work in this endeavor. It would seem to me that this, inserting some flag that this is an unsubscribed user, should be done by the software that you use to do the 'approve' or 'decline' option. If I may ask, what software do you use? Is it open source that we may modify?
Again thanks for your effort,
Cliff
