You'll want to read up on page styles. You can set up different configurations for odd & even pages, so that, for example, page numbers appear in opposite sides of odd/even pages. You can even set up a first page style, which would be followed by an even page style, followed by an odd page etc. So, you'd set up the first page style to not have a page number, then the even page style show place the page number at the bottom left corner, then odd in the bottom right, just like in a book. Of course you could simply have the page number in the middle on both odd & even, but not first page styles.
