By default, documents are saved to the path in Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Paths, under My Documents. If you want to save a particular document to the desktop instead, you can use the File > Save As dialog to navigate there. If you want all documents saved there, or otherwise want to change the location used by default, you can edit the path
