This post illustrates a problem I alluded to in my "Paid support & CDs" thread: People buy a CD from any one of many possible sources (some listed on OO's own site, others not), the vendor points them here for support, and they post under the understandable impression that we're a conventional support function. I believe we've seen many prior examples and expect we'll see more. This one is unique only in that it's unusually obnoxious.
I understand how tempting it can be to put these people in their place, but think it's better to correct their misconceptions politely and ignore the rest. They are, after all, trying to join the OO user family, need help, and their first impressions of their OO experience are apt to be lasting. The real villains here are vendors who misrepresent the list's nature -- not their victims.
