I am looking for a simple way to access an existing data base. It is well-defined, and consists of a 1,400 field record.
I wish to extract only 2-3 fields, perform some simple arithmetic, and print
the result. Is there a simple language to do this, or must I use JAVA (of
which I have no knowlege) ?
I would appreciate it if somone would point me in the right direction. I have
already down-loaded openoffice successfully. I need a simple set of
instructions--I have had minimal openoffice experience.
Many thanks, Jay Kenaga, [email protected]
What you are describing can be done quite easily with a query in the
Base component of OOo, but we need to know more about what you're doing
to give you specific directions. For example, what form is the database
in? Is it really 1400 fields, or just some reasonable number of fields
and 1400 records? What calculations are you trying to perform? What is
your OS and version of OOo?
One helpful resource would be
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/userguide3/0108GS3-GettingStartedWithBase.pdf
PS -- Please only ask once, we apparently got three of the same question
within five minutes, which just clutters things up.
