Thanks Harold. Valuable tip.
I tried it, it definitely works the way I wanted, and as you mentioned, the
file becomes bigger.
The problem with that is that editing becomes tricky because it uses up
greater resources and slows down the computer, More then that, the auto save
that occurs now and then takes minutes rather then seconds now.
So my idea is to maybe have two versions: a work version that will be linked
to photos and lighter to use, and a presentation version that will have
photos embedded (Edit>Links>Break Links) and will be foolproof meaning no
missing photos surprises when I screen it live with audience.
Unfortunately, I thought about it only after I broke the links and there's
no 'undo' option for that (undo is greyed out).
What would you suggest.
I "think" the only solution is to delete each image (from a copy of
the presentation) and then insert them (linked) again. Now your
current original will have the images embedded and the copy will have
them linked.
And one more question, if you don't mind, do you know how I can screen the
presentation on a big screen (meaning from laptop through the VGA connection
to a projector) AND have it on the running on the 'notes' mode on my laptop
screen. That way I can have my summary reminder of points to talk about for
every slide.
I don't think you can do this - have two different views at the same
time. But, of course, I could be wrong. Anyone? Help. Please!

I have this on good authority:
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/presenter-screen
"The Presenter Console Extension provides more control over your slide
show presentation, such as the ability to see the upcoming slide, the
slide notes, and a presentation timer whereas the audience see only the
current slide."
