What is the purpose of Quickstarter and how does it work? Can I configure
OpenOffice.org on Windows to suppress Quickstart? How can I measure
Quickstart's beneficial impact?
I ask these questions because when I use OOo on Windows to process
documents on a USB stick drive I cannot safely remove the stick drive
without first terminating Quickstarter. I see no value in retaining an open
state for a document after it is closed by the user either by Close or
Exit. I use both writer and calc. I mostly use them on Linux but on
occasion I must use Windows.
I waited the other day for over five minutes for the ability to remove the
memory stick before it dawned on me that Quickstarter might be holding
things up. I was blaming the relatively slow computer and Windows 2000. Now
I believe the bottleneck to have been Quickstarter.
