The quickstarter provides faster opening of OpenOffice, by loading part
of it into memory at boot up.  You can easily turn it off, by right
clicking on the icon and selecting close.  You can also turn it off
permanently, in Options.  However, I'm surprised you have to turn it
off, as I've often used pen drives and never had to turn off the
quickstarter.  Thiis was in Linux and XP though, not 2000.
