Well said & good info for WK. The issue of no including Base & other
java important modules has long been an issue of 'lack of space on the
distribution CD's'. When I questioned this regarding the DVD I got back
the same answer. Essentially (U)OOo is initially installed incomplete.
I've multiple bug reports regarding this.

For Web Kracked:

1. Please only stick to OOo on the list. For other issues regarding
Ubuntu (how to mount drives, general use etc) I recommend subscribing to
the Ubuntu user lists/forums.
https://help.ubuntu.com/
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community
   https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Signpost/Answers#help-use
You'll find lots of good & friendly help there. Note: I recommend using
gmane.org/nntp to subscribe/read/post on the ubuntu users list; that way
you'll easily be able to search the threads + it's a much higher volume
list than this one & using gmane will keep your inbox from overloading.

Newsserver: news.gmane.org
Group: gmane.linux.ubuntu.user

Keep in mind that *is* a list. Direct subscription to the list is:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-users

2. Become familiar with the Ununtu bug reporting system; you should
report bugs related to (U)OOo here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org
Please do not report (U)OOo bugs to the OOo qa.openoffice.org unless
you're certain that it affects both versions & you've already reported
it in launchpad. Just be *sure* to advise which version(s) you are using
when asking questions here, reporting on launchpad, or reporting on
qa.openoffice.org. You can easily find the version by the following
(from a terminal):

$ locate versionrc
$ cat <pathtoversionrc>

Example:
$ locate versionrc
/opt/ooo-dev/basis3.2/program/versionrc
/opt/ooo-dev/ure/bin/versionrc
/opt/ooo-dev3/program/versionrc
/opt/openoffice.org/basis3.1/program/versionrc
/opt/openoffice.org/ure/bin/versionrc
/opt/openoffice.org3/program/versionrc
/usr/lib/openoffice/basis3.1/program/versionrc
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/versionrc
/usr/lib/ure/bin/versionrc

$ cat /opt/ooo-dev/basis3.2/program/versionrc
[Version]
buildid=300m53(Build:9412)
OOOBaseVersion=3.2
OOOPackageVersion=3.2.0
ProductBuildid=9412
ProductMajor=300
ProductMinor=53
ProductSource=DEV300

These will make for interesting reading:

[[upstream] Openoffice.org Address data sources missing]
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=87375
[Address Book Source types missing]
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/208786
[[upstream] OOo no longer greys out save button after saving as it
should - related to another post in this thread]

3. Install the following to complete the (U)OOo install:

$ sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-evolution
[or use System|Administration|Synaptic... to do the same]
That will pull in openoffice.org-base, openoffice.org-java-common and
openoffice.org-evolution - the last which will enable you to use
evolution's address sources.

In general, (U)OOo works quite well. In fact for sound & video (Impress
etc) it is far and above standard OOo as (U)OOo uses the gstreamer
libraries and you needn't mess around with installing the archaic Sun
jmf nonsense. JMF hasn't been updated in years:
http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/
and in most cases just plain sucks when compared to gstreamer.

As Drew mentioned, released (U)OOo versions typically lag behind OOo
(mostly *far* behind. For example, (U)OOo for 9.04 Jaunty is only at
3.0.1. If you'd like to keep on top of things in the (U)OOo world I'd
recommend (later) to install the most recent PPA version which is at
3.1.0. But get familiar with (U)OOo 3.01 first.
