Hello all,
my version of OpenOffice is the 3.1 and i have the following error:
i had opened my file and i was working on it. I had a problem with the battery
of my laptop and the power supply, so when i was working on my file, the PC
switched off. After restarting my file was not in my work folder as ever: it
disappeared. Every time i open OpenOffice it try to restore the file (even it
is not in my folder as i told) but the restoring process can't restore the
file. I've tried to search for the ODT file and restore it by using some free
file recovery application but even there the file is not present, i can find
only old link to that file and other stuff that have no significance.
Please,
can you yell how to have restored the file? It's fundamental for my work (1
year of work in it) :(
Thank you very mutch,
Valerio
Sure hope you saved a backup somewhere! But are you saying that the
previously saved copy of the file is gone from your hard drive? OOo
might overwrite a file with the new version under the same name, but
that should never mean that the old copy is explicitly deleted. It
sounds as if the failure occurred while the file was being written, and
messed up your file system (that is, there was an operating system
error). Maybe another file recovery program would have better luck --
somebody here might suggest a good one, or you can look on
sourceforge.com. Otherwise, sorry to say I think you're probably out of
luck. In the future, you need to save important files periodically to
something other than your hard drive (given time, any hard drive is
almost certain to fail at some point). That applies to any local e-mail
folders, too, as I discovered to my cost!
