Does anybody here know what the OOo installer/uninstaller is finding that
makes it think there's an open instance of OOo running? Ray Hawes (
[email protected], an unsubscribed user) reports that OOo is not
in his Startup folder, not in the Start menu, not in Program Files, no
Quickstarter in task bar, and there is no soffice.bin process running, but
when he tries to install or uninstall OOo thinks it has to be closed to
proceed. OOo is still in the Windows "uninstall programs" list from an
earlier installation of 3.1 from the www.openoffice.org website. I have no
idea what, other than an soffice.bin process, would be used to determine
that OOo is running. Help, please!

On my Win XP Pro system, according to Task Manager, there are *two*
"soffice" processes running: soffice.bin *and* soffice.exe

This is when, as far as I am concerned, *only* the Quickstarter is running.

Has your respondent tried the [free] Windows Installer Cleanup Utility at
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301>?

HTH.

Thanks, Harold -- the cleanup utility sounds like a good bet. When I've had orphaned OOo instances, I've found that ending soffice.bin also ends any soffice.exe processes that are running, so I think they're child processes. But he didn't see any "soffice" at all.
