I am trying to print Avery labels type J8163, but the data doesn't
fit correctly onto the labels. Everything is too far left and the
left margin has cut off first part of data. I checked all
measurements in format and these tally with label sheet. I tried
increasing left margin but then I lost half the labels in preview.
Does anyone know how to deal with this?
I'm no expert on labels, but here are a couple of ideas:
o I see that you are in the UK, so I'm guessing that you will be
using A4 label stock (as J8163 appears to be). In the Labels
dialogue in OpenOffice, you need to select "Avery A4" for Brand and
then "J8163 Address" for Type, not "Avery Letter Size" and "8163 Ink
Jet Address / Shipping".
o For reasons I don't claim to understand, the page sizes of
OpenOffice label templates are not what you expect. Instead of
extending to the full size of the label stock, they appear to have
appropriate top and left margins but to finish almost immediately
after the label area to the right and at the bottom. In the case of
the template you need, for example, the page size is given as 208 mm
by 282 mm, whereas A4 is actually 210 mm by 297 mm. This should make
no difference if the system works, of course. But if, as you
suggest, you need to increase the left margin, there will immediately
be no room for the right column, and it will spill over onto the next
page. You can easily correct this by increasing the page width (on
the same tab where you changed the margin).
I trust this helps.
