I am a beginner at Ooo and ask your opinion on the best tutorial for
writer and calc 3. One problem I encountered was trying to create a
table of contents. I saw the following in a tutorial:
Before inserting a Table of Contents, the Stylist must be used to
identify headings.
It's called "Styles and Formatting" in version 3, in fact.
To mark headings:
Highlight the paragraph heading.
Choose Format -> Stylist from the pull-down menu.
Double-click on your choice of Heading Level from the dialog box.
You need to apply a "Heading" paragraph style (Heading 1, Heading 2,
and so on) to all headings that you want to appear in your table of
contents. (At least, that's the easiest way.)

But when I clicked OK all I got was a heading, "Table of
Contents." No TOC at all.
Any suggestions, please?
Yes: I imagine that you did not apply "Heading" paragraph styles to
the items you wished to see in your table of contents.
I trust this helps.
