David,

Indeed, there is an "English English".  You may want to check the 
Language Options under :
Tools --> Options --> Languages and under "Default Language for 
Documents", set the language to "English (UK)".

This should set the language for ALL your documents.  On the other 
hand, should you want to change the document for just ONE specific 
document, perhaps you may want to look at the settings on a per Style 
basis.
