Thanks for the information (I'm in Indiana by the way) -- sometimes there
is too much info on the web on a subject. One site said copying the ISO
was the way to go. "download.openoffice.org" says you need a DVD

CD-ROM ISO Images

As of the 3.0 release, the standard CD image has been merged into a
single DVD image. It now contains the installers for Windows, Linux (in
both .deb and RPM packages), DMG images for Macintosh (both Intel and
PowerPC hardware), and Solaris packages for both x86 and SPARC platforms.

The contents of the Extras CD have also been included

It seemed the ISO would cover both the Windows and few Mac users I have
in my classrooms. I have no idea what the "extra CD" included; couldn't
find anything on their site anywhere I looked.

Based on this (and other) responses, it seems that all I have to do is
burn the image to a disk and will have all the installers plus some extra
stuff.

thanks for all the help
