Well, at work I used two different email apps, Seamonkey for work and
Thunderbird for personal email (lots of spare time) and wanted to keep
the two completely separate. While I could have used different
profiles, that would mean that one one could be open at a time. With
two email apps, I could have both business & personal email open at the
same time. Seamonkey was configured to use the company mail servers and
Thunderbird, my own imap server and ISP's smtp server. Also, I have
found some email apps perform some functions better than others.

I achieve the same basic functionality by defining separate accounts
in Thunderbird with different smtp servers. Different strokes for
different folks. Doesn't mean one implementation is better than the other.
