Hi,
I recently downloaded Open Office and would like to eventually shift
to the whole suite completely, so I have been opening my MS Office
documents in Open Office suite. When I opened a Powerpoint file
however that contained an org chart (Powerpoint embeds the org chart
and allows editing within Powerpoint), Open Office considers it as a
whole object. I would like to edit it also within the OO suite, but I
could not find an org chart application. I also searched in the
extensions, but there were 3rd party apps instead and would only allow
free 30-day trials. Is there an org chart application downloadable
that is for this suite? Your inputs are appreciated.
Thank you very much.
When you make something like an org chart, either with OpenOffice or
with MS Office you make it from several "objects" - rectangles, lines,
etc. which you can then "group" to make larger objects that can be
moved, copied and so on as single entities. To edit such a grouped
object you must either "ungroup" it or "enter" it. Once it is ungrouped
you have access to its components; you might need to ungroup those too
if you want to get down to the basic shapes. When you open your chart in
OOo, can you ungroup the slide? Perhaps in Draw? Can you ungroup it in
MS Office and then re-save it for opening in OOo? Does doing that help?
I have put words like "group" and "enter" in quotes because those are
the words used in the OOo menus (and Help). I am 99% sure the same words
are used in the MS Office menus and Help.
