So now we know -- all the lists work the same, after all, which

Yep - I hate mysteries... ;)
Unfortunately, all the message bodies just use the direct
form, and most people never look at expanded headers at all. The text of
the unsubscribe failure message talks about the Return-Path header and
has instructions for getting at it under Eudora 4.0 and PMMail, which
certainly seems less than helpful.

I totally agree that the list management process should always strip
all the prefixing (BATV or other) before applying any rules about
subscriptions (subscribing, unsubscribing, or posting).
That would solve the problem completely... now the only question is, do
you have any pull to try to get this done (either enabling the feature
or upgrading the ezmlm software so the feature will be available then
enabling it)?
The only "pull" I have is that our moderator, Paul, is aware of what I'm
doing and is generally supportive, and he knows people who may be
willing to act if a sufficiently strong case can be made for a specific
action. So far, most of these discussions have stayed in the realm of
"it would really be nice if somebody did something to fix the list" --
not very helpful. I'm trying to pin down some concrete recommendations
based on factual information, some of which you've certainly supplied here.
One last question... should I go open a bug/feature request for this
issue somewhere? I'd like to stay in the loop so I know if/when I can
resub from my work address...
That surely would not hurt, but it's probably worth looking at some past
issues to see if there are roadblocks we haven't considered. I'd start
with an archive search on ezmlm and/or CollabNet (and I know that will
be very extensive). For your specific case, BATV might be a particularly
useful search term. Probably need both mailing lists and forums.
Anyway, thanks for seeing this through with me, guess we can close this
thread now.
Yes, and if necessary we can continue on the discuss list.
