How do I completely get rid of OOO? I can not use it and have installed MS
office but the computer continues to try and open doc's with OOO and of course
there are errors. In the add/remove programs, I don't see additional items to
remove. Please help in the complete removal of this program.

When I select open with MS word the document does not translate and I get
symbols and letters on the page.
What you have are a couple of problems. First, and most important, it appears you have saved documents in OpenOffice.org's file format. Word will *NOT* open that format--you need to *reinstall* OpenOffice.org and have it open those files and then use Save As to save the file as a Word document file.

Second, you may have a problem with file associations. I say "may" because Word, if you reinstalled it, should have taken over DOC files if you had told OOo to grab them initially. As well, the problem you are reporting would be with files that can *only* be opened with OOo--which would mean there's not a Windows file associations problem, as Word has no clue what those files are. If you save a brand new file from inside Word on your desktop, does that show up with an OpenOffice.org icon, a Word icon, or something else? If it shows as Word, your associations are correct and you have the file format problem. If it shows as OOo, then your file associations are not correct. You can correct that by right clicking on the icon for the file on the desktop you just created, right click on the icon, select "Open With", scroll through the list of programs to select Word, check the box to Always open files with this program and then click OK. Note, I am a user of OOo who, like the others on this mailing list, voluntarily answer posts and so in no way an "official" source of OOo information. I say that because, from time to time, people get confused when posting to mailing groups and think they are talking with someone representing "the company" (which, in this case, is a whole different issue <grin>, but I digress).
