Hi Penny. Doesn't sound good. I'm assuming you didn't have time to open openoffice after your download and before your computer battery went dead. If so, this suggests to me that there might just be a problem with the download. Sometimes when a file is downloading there is a short period after reaching 100% while the last bit of the file is being written to disk, and if this didn't happen, you've got a bad download.
I would seriously suggest that you make a new download. That's a bummer if you're on dialup, but better safe than sorry. You won't regret having chosen Open Office. It's got everything you need. Just remember, if you share documents with others, that you might need to save them in Microsoft Word format (use Save As on the File menu) as not everyone has Open Office yet.
