Hi;

I may be having a brain cramp but ...

In Calc, how do I group some rows together before sorting?

For example, I have a small set of data like

        Col:A Col:B Col:C Col:D

row1 jkdfa dsajh ociv
row2 djafsh ire q.e ab
row3 cd
row4 ef
row5 zpdd uwen qerw

I want to sort on Col:A, however I want to somehow group rows 2, 3 & 4
together so that at the end of the sort rows 2, 3 & 4 are still
contiguous.

I am sure there is a way to do this that I have forgotten. If a help
explanation exists, then I have also forgotten the correct help index
criteria (word) to search under.

A reminder in either case would be helpful -- am starting to get
frustrated.

The data in Col:D was only notes to myself and not really part of the
main record on row2. So, I formatted D2 to word wrap and put all three
notes in one cell and then sorted. That solved my immediate problem.
However, it wasn't exactly what I wanted because the three notes started
out being bullet point type of notes.

I am sure I remember seeing some data formula or other means of locking
or grouping records together so that they would sort as one. Maybe I am
mis-remembering.
IDEA: Since SORT works on selected cells you could select all the rows you want sorted with the rows you want to have grouped together deselected then run the sort. You might have to move the grouped rows afterwards. I did not try this, but it seems logical.
