The file associations should have been updated when you installed v3.1.
However, it is easy to change them by following these instructions. I
assume you're running some version of Windows.
Changing file associations
Right click on file icon
Select Open With > Choose Program...
Check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and
choose the desired application.
