I downloaded openoffice but was told I could not open because it was not a "win32" I don't know what that means nor do I know how to download the product and open - if there is another way? Please help! Thank you, Maureen Gallagher

If you downloaded OpenOffice.org (free) from the website of the same name, it should have selected the version that belongs to the kind of computer you were using. If you tried to open it on a different machine type, that could explain your problem. It sounds as if you need the Windows version and got a different one. In that case, you'll need to download again, either on your own computer or another one. If you use a different computer, make sure you follow the link to get to the different versions, and then select the right one for your own computer.

Once you have the right file on your computer, double-clicking it should start the installation process, and after that's complete, the OpenOffice.org applications should be available in your Start menu, and possibly through an icon on your desktop and one in the system tray (usually bottom right on your screen). At that point, you can delete the installation file, if you'd like, or put it somewhere so you can reinstall if necessary without having to download again.

There are more complete installation instructions on the website, if this isn't enough. Welcome to OOo, and you can come back here if you have more questions -- the volunteers here are happy to help.
