Does "only if font is not available" mean if the font of the document does not
exist in the computer, or if the font does not have a particular character?
If the font you are using does not have the specific glyph, but does
have glyphs in the same sub-range, then the font is silently
substituted.
I am happy to learn that the program is written in the best way I can
think of. But still, the character doesn't show and a space is appears
instead if the font applied to it is not the one that contains it (Deja
Vu Sans)...
If it lacks the entire range, then squares are
substituted.
I added Arial to Deja Vu Sans in the configuration table. When I apply
Arial to the character, a square is substituted.
This operation is done regardless of how the Font
Replacement Table is configured.
I suppose this means regardless the checkboxes checked, right?
Also, it's the first time I hear about OOo forks. Does it mean
developers' versions of OOo that haven't become official?
No.
The major forks are:
* NoGo OOo, which is found mainly on Linux;
* Sun OOo, which is found mainly on Windows;
* NeoOffice, which is found mainly on Mac OS X;

My operating system being Windows, I suppose aI have the Sun OOo fork.
Can you make the character appear in your Writer without using font that
contains it?
Thanks,
