Hi,

It's probably my own doing and I'm a little frazzled so going to let this lie for a few hours and come back to it again - but thought I'd shoot off a question or two first.

Blather: It's too bad OO.o chose to use the word Section when it was openly known that MD Word also used the term, but for something entirely different. ANYway, as edification for those who care, I've been studying OO's "sections" a bit this AM and surprisingly discovered it's actually easier to apply and in several circumstances can be used instead of Styles to break a document into different formats, etc..

I like that I can switch back and forth from 1 to 2 columns with sections, vary the text, have some of it protected and other parts unprotected from changes, and can even contain conditional statements! It's a revelation to me at least, and probably to others here too. NO WAY DO I MEAN YOU DO NOT NEED STYLES, etc.. It's just that I've been using Styles for things that are easier and less work in Sections; I can already see that. But I wish they had combined the two into one standard dialog box.

_Questions:_

-- Apparently a *"section"* only lasts until the first page-break; right?

-- Is there a way to get a section to contain more than one paragraph?
I thought maybe ALT-Enter and a few other combos, but no luck.

-- How do I get conditionals to work? Has anyone used conditionals for the sections areas? Historically it's always something very basic that I miss with this kind of a problem.

-- How elegant can the conditionals get? I guess what I really want to know is what their scope is and whether the full set of conditional commands can be used? e.g. changing links from other parts of the document when they're added; things like that. I often seem to be doing things that use multiple repeats that would be nice to have them populate throughout the doc where they're needed, including the protected sections. The easy protection method is probably the most important feature of sections I've discovered.

-- How do I "find", or identify a section once it's been set? Doesn't seem to be mentioned in the Help.

-- If I do something dumb, like leave my cursor inside a protected area when I add that "section" as one which is protected, is there any way to get my cursor OUT of it? The only way I can find is to delete the section and re-enter it, being sure to hit Enter a time or two before I mark the selection.

I sincerely thank anyone that can give me a better head start with answers to these questions. I'm reading the FM, but it's not all settling in that well for me. I have no aversion at all to links as responses vs prose; it's readable, useful data that matters, not its presentation<g>.

TIA,

Twayne
