Is there a way to set the page number on a EXISTING page?
I know I could have done it when I added a page break.
Two that i am aware of.
Navigate to where you wish the Page# inserted on the page then from
the menu
choose "Insert - Field - Page Number" or "Insert - Field - Other..." and
customise your Page Number to suit.
Alternatively you can place a page number on all pages which use the
same page
style by inserting the page# in the header or footer.
I used the wrong terminology.
I want to reset the page number to 1.
Instead of my table of contents being page 2, I want it to be page 1
and the page before has no page number.
Others have already suggested a couple of ways to accomplish that. You
might find some useful information about customary layout and styles for
books at http://www.docsymmetry.com/layout.html The site is aimed at
technical writers, but books of all types share many features.

Have a nice day.
