Impress SaveAs has the same description for both .ppt vs.pps. Microsoft PowerPoint 97/2000/XP

That's good - since they are the same! The file formats are identical, the different extensions merely indicating what you want to happen when the file is opened. Documents with the .ppt extension open in Powerpoint as if for further editing; those with the .pps extension display as a "slide show", which is neater when you are delivering the presentation. The option to save as .pps is not present in my version 3.1.1 of OpenOffice, so I'm guessing it must be new in version 3.2; in any case, you can simply rename these files to change the extension as needed.

I trust this helps.
