I've run into a similar problem with Windows, and it drives me batty. 
Isn't there some way to force write ops in Windows? Or even remove the
filelock from the registry or somesuch?

I dream of the day when I can, using Windows, delete and rename files
at will... Until then, I'll keep using Unix.
