It worked. The most useful thing is posting inside the message right after whatever you are responding to (as I'm doing here) if that makes sense, and snipping out parts of the older messages that aren't applicable or necessary for understanding at this point (as I'm doing below).

Yes, and thanks. In Windows 7, you can use Start > Control Panel , Programs, Uninstall a program, select OpenOffice.org 3.2, and use the Repair button at the top.
