[My wife] is running Spell Check. She is shown a suggestion. The
phrase is: "Gee Willikers -- the newlyweds". 'Willikers' is
highlighted and a series of suggestions are shown.
1)Suppose she believes that the correct spelling is not among the
choices "suggested". How can she add to the list of suggestions or
go to the phrase and edit it?
There are a number of question rolled into one here!
o Is the word correctly spelled as typed? (You have somewhat
confused matters by choosing what I take to be a proper name as your
example!) If so, you don't need any other suggestions, but you may
wish to add this correct spelling to your dictionary. You can do
that using the Add button in the Spelling dialogue. (This has
already been explained.)
o Is the word wrong but you don't see the correct spelling? You
cannot persuade Writer to come up with more suggestions that it does,
of course. So you need either to correct the spelling yourself or
else to get it closer to the right spelling before Writer can offer
you what you need. You can do this by editing the highlighted word
directly in the "Not in dictionary" panel of the Spelling
dialogue. Once you have made the correction, you still have two
choices. You can click the Change button to make the change and move
on. But you can alternatively use Add as above to add the word to
the dictionary. This has the effect of making the change but also
adding it to acceptable spellings and to possible suggestions for
future misspellings.
2)Can she be taken directly to the line in question?
Not easily, I think. But it will be somewhere in the current screen
view. If you edit the mistake in the Spelling dialogue (as above),
you may not need to get to the word's position in the
text. Alternatively, if you click the AutoSpellcheck button in the
Standard toolbar, misspellings will be underlined with a wiggly red
line; this may make it easier to spot the word in the text. Note
that you do not need to close the Spelling dialogue in order to make
changes in the text: when you return to the dialogue, you get the
option to Resume.
I can see that when the Spell Check Window comes up, that the page
and line of the phrase in question are notated at the bottom of the
Writer screen, ...
That's not what I see, in fact: I see only the page number and total
number of pages.
I trust this helps.
