What tool or tools would folk suggest for this job?
I have the lyrics for 5000+ songs (they are Christian hymns, for use
in church). They are currently in a single text file like this:
[CH3-001] 1. All people that on earth do dwell,
[CH3-001] Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice.
[CH3-001] Him serve with mirth, his praise forth tell,
[CH3-001] Come ye before him and rejoice.
[CH3-001]
[CH3-001] 2. Know that the Lord is God indeed;
[CH3-001] Without our aid he did us make,
[CH3-001] We are his flock, he doth us feed,
[CH3-001] And for his sheep he doth us take.
[MP-0001]
[MP-0001] A new commandment I give unto you,
[MP-0001] that you love one another as I have loved you,
[MP-0001] that you love one another as I have loved you.
[MP-0001]
[MP-0001] By this shall all men know that you are my disciples,
[MP-0001] if you have love one for another.
[MP-0001] By this shall all men know that you are my disciples,
[MP-0001] if you have love one for another.
[MP-0003] Abba Father, let me be
[MP-0003] Yours and Yours alone.
[MP-0003] May my will for ever be
[MP-0003] Evermore Your own.
[MP-0003] Never let my heart grow cold,
[MP-0003] Never let me go,
[MP-0003] Abba Father, let me be
[MP-0003] Yours and Yours alone.
The CH3 and MP denote the hymn book the song came from, the number is
the number in the book, and the rest of the line is lyric.
I'd love to end up with a bunch of PowerPoint or OpenOffice Impress
presentation files, one for each song:
CH3-001.sxi
MP-0001.sxi
MP-0003.sxi etc!
I have never done any OpenOffice scripting - I've glanced at
openoffice.org, but couldn't get my head round what things there...
Would I be best to split the stuff up into per-song text files, and
then (somehow!) call openoffice on each song to import the text and
save as a presentation?
Or would I be better to write the whole thing as an openoffice script?
Wouldn't know where to begin!!
Or are there other ways round this?
I'd probably prefer to end up with .ppt rather than .sxi as the
machine that will be displaying them will be a Windows laptop not
under my control - but I can save then as .ppt as I need to easily
enough if I'm not having to start a fresh presentation each time!!
Cheers
Colin
