Thanks, Gary. Yes, I see that, and it's an interesting example. [Why is "interesting" so often
associated with "difficult' and "problematic"? ;-) ] First, the nice part: Your example shows, in
effect, almost exactly what the OP requested: No graphic import needed; you just type the word
"Draft" in the frame, and it's done! That said, it seems fraught with quibbles and caveats [many
of which, it must be said, are characteristic of OO/Writer, not limited to this topic]:
1) [The Help has, of course, nothing about Watermark frames, so I have to ask about process.] Is
this your process? -
a) Insert > Frame... click OK.
b) With frame selected, go to Frame styles [discovering, BTW, that it is already styled as
Frame style "Frame" - whatever /that/ means ("Frame"="Default"?)], and select style "Watermark".
c) Edit the watermark frame attributes as needed. Do you size the frame at this point, or is
the frame sized from the (text) contents? Is there some reason not to make it full-page size?
d) Type watermark text in the frame. [Another BTW: Going to the Paragraph styles, we see that
the text is already styled as "Frame contents". What does /that/ mean?]
There are other styles like that, too -- but they're useful for establishing a style for all the
objects of that type that are not explicitly given a style. And basing a new style on one of them
can make later changes easier to apply across a document.
Would you please fill in the blanks on that summary?
2) More fundamental than the *process* of making a frame-based watermark is the question of
whether it *works* as a watermark: Since it is not attached to a Page style, it is not repeated on
subsequent pages. So, does it get copied to every page of a "DRAFT" document? If so, is that an
intelligent use of a word processor?
I think you could anchor the frame in a header or footer, then position it as
desired.
More questions occur, but these seem to be the essential ones. Can you help us think through (a)
what OOoWriter intends for the watermark function and (b) what purpose is intended for the
Watermark frame?
