I am not even a novice when it comes to master documents but have you
tried the Documentation Project?

list of user guides that are available and one of them is call "Working
with Master Documents". It is chapter 13 in the full Write Guide also
available from the page.
Yes, I'm aware of those. I'm already very happily using Master
Documents.
Sorry, it isn't at all clear what you are asking. You should have no trouble adding new material to
your document -- either by editing chapters or adding new ones. What is it exactly that's puzzling you?
