I have about 60 email messages, none longer than one page,

You can insert a page break in a Writer document by pressing Ctrl+Enter,

The question remains, how can I assure that that page break is picked
up by the export-to-PDF process? The help pages are, as far as I can
find, silent on this point. I guess I can determine the answer
through experimental trial& error...
Exporting to PDF should give the same as you'd get by printing the
document, so yes, the page breaks should also be in the PDF.

For your particular use (assuming you only actually want the final PDF),
it may be easier to use PDFCreator (http://www.pdfforge.org/)
I messed up, and overlooked describing my environment; Open Office 3.2
under Ubuntu 10.04. According to their site, PDFCreator runs only under
Vista or Win7, neither of which I have, (shudder!) nor any plans to.
I'll just do some experimentation and see what results.
I think you're right about PDFCreator being Windows-only. There might be
something similar for Linux, but I've no idea what.
Mark.
