Works for me: Ubuntu 10.10 (Ubuntu)OOo 3.2.1 and (Standard)OOo 3.3.0 and
LibreOffice 3.3.1.

Do you by chance have 'View|Field Shadings' checked? If so uncheck and
see if that makes a difference.
