Al,
in general, discussing lists vs forum is indeed like discussing religion.
However, since this *is* a list, please let me point out that you are
creating the problem above all by yourself, by subscribing to the digest.
This list is properly threaded, as all mailing lists, and if you use Gmail
it will do all the "extra work" by itself. And you'll only have to declare
as uninteresting the first email of each topic to not see the others.

If you like forums best that's OK, but the only thing that creates the
problem you have here and now is the digest. I really, really don't
understand why digests are still offered as options, if they disappeared
life would be better. Switch to normal subscription and you'll be happy.
Or happier than now at least.
